Caring for young people is arguably the most important job we will ever do, and yet comes with the least training.

Why parenting workshops?

  • Do you struggle to be the parent you want to be?
  • Do you feel burnt out as a parent?
  • Do you work with children and want to improve your effectiveness and mutual communication?
  • Do you want to be able to increase your children’s happiness and self-confidence?
  • Do you want to be able to solve individual and family problems without conflict?
  • Do you want to be able to improve your (and your children’s) communication skills?
  • Do you want to create warmer, more satisfying family relationships?

How can I help?

I am passionate about enabling carers to maximise their impact and enjoyment in this vital role, in turn improving children’s resilience, independence and happiness. I understand the challenges that parents and carers face and I bring a wealth of experience from teaching and my own parenting journey.

I run courses for any person working with infants, children and teenagers. As your Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) workshop leader, I will help you build valuable skills to help manage relationships and facilitate harmony. Courses are face to face in Sevenoaks and online.

Being a parent or carer doesn’t always mean that you instinctively know what to do.

Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.)

This model was created by award-winning psychologist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Dr Thomas Gordon, in 1962. He believed that parents and carers should have access to the same skills as counsellors and therapists.

Since then, millions of parents and carers have benefited from incorporating these time-tested communication methods into their family life.

P.E.T. is based on coaching principles such as active listening, individual responsibility, and solution-focussed problem solving.

P.E.T. follows best practice in terms of communication and conflict-resolution.

P.E.T. workshops

P.E.T. is a series of eight parent workshops.

The workshops provide a structure to make caring for young people easier. They help you learn these new skills:

  • PROBLEM OWNERSHIP – How to decide whose problem it is
  • ACTIVE LISTENING – How to help others with their problems
  • ‘I’ MESSAGES – How to influence others to change
  • PROBLEM SOLVING – How to find solutions that meet everyone’s needs
  • CONSULTING – How to talk about differences in values

Using these skills, you will be amazed at the dramatic improvement not only in family life, but in all your relationships.

“Parents should be trained not blamed.”
Thomas Gordon

Other workshops

While living in Myanmar, I created a workshop programme for expat partners. It followed coaching principles and focused on enabling participants to adapt and prosper abroad.
