How can I help?
I provide weekly 1:1 tutoring and coaching sessions for students in Sevenoaks and online. I periodically also run group sessions. While many of the students I work with attend international schools around the world and are looking to move to schools in the UK, I also have tutees who are closer to home and who are looking for extra support.
I am an experienced teacher and educational leader. I have >20 years’ experience as a class teacher in state, independent and international schools in London, Kent and Asia, including recent experience and success feeding to Kent grammar schools and top SE independent schools at 11+, 13+ and scholarship.
I understand the different context of local, independent and international schools and I can help students and families navigate transition between schools and systems.
I am passionate about facilitating learning, growth and self-awareness in my students. I work with students to identify their strengths and gaps, enabling them to take more ownership of their learning and encouraging a growth mindset.
I create personalised, interactive lessons to build confidence and skills, enabling smooth transitions.
I have tutored students in France, Hong Kong, Italy, India, Japan, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, UAE, UK and USA
Why Tutor?
Tutoring helps build a student’s knowledge, skills and confidence. 1:1 lessons enable your child to to experience 100% teacher attention and completely personalised learning. A qualified and experienced tutor will recognise your child’s unique abilities and help them play to their strengths. Tutoring can keep you informed of work that your child is doing and how to support them with this work: it can give you insight into their learning on a weekly basis and contact with a teacher who can help you understand the learning process.
Some common reasons for tutoring include:
- Preparing for entrance tests or examinations.
- Providing a safe space for high performing students to make mistakes and be challenged supportively.
- Supporting students who are underachieving.
- Identifying knowledge gaps that might be holding a student back – and providing structured teaching and practice to fill these gaps.
- Reigniting students’ curiosity and love of learning.
Students need to be supported through change: in school, curriculum or country

What people say …
I highly recommend Alison. She is punctual, professional and generous. Alison is passionate and dedicated teacher, able to connect and build relationships with the pupils she works with, filling the gaps, and preparing every lesson in detail. She encouraged my son all the way, feeding the successes. This was not only learning, but growing together.
My son has been tutored by Alison for a few months now. The objectives were to increase his confidence and try and get his passion for English back. Alison has been patient, going back to basics on technical skills, filling in gaps and most importantly making the lessons enjoyable. My son looks forward to his sessions each week. I am thrilled that she has been able to ignite that fire in him again.

I … commend Ali Chugg to you as an outstanding primary school teacher … Ali is an excellent curriculum thinker, and an inquiry-based teacher.
Ali has been with us just over 2 years and I challenge anyone to make more difference to a school in that short a time. The whole school culture and curriculum changed by her actions.
